During Totality, the skies go mainly dark in the middle of the afternoon. This is the only time it's safe to remove eye protection. 

All of the U.S. will be able to see the solar eclipse in some capacity, but totality, the main event of the total solar eclipse will be seen in a sliver from Texas to Maine on April 8, 2024.

The Devil's comet may also be visible during totality, however only experienced astronomers should try and find it as it may not be visible to the naked eye. It will be hanging out below jupiter  to the left of the eclipse. Looking near the sun with binoculars or a telescope is extremely dangerous.
