This is the dramatic moment an 11-year-old schoolboy was rescued by a fisherman with a spinning rod after he got stranded on a drifting ice floe in Ukraine

The video of the moment was filmed by a fisherman Richard Gorda, who saved the boy in the daring rescue from the Desenka river in Kyiv on Sunday.

The clip shows the child, who reportedly said he could not swim, being carried away on a drifting piece of ice.

Mr Gorda is heard calling on the horrified boy to remain calm while applying his fishing gear to rescue him.

The footage then shows the fisherman throwing his spinning rod to the boy after reportedly removing the hook from its end.

The boy manages to get a grip of the line before being pulled towards the shore.

The video ends with the witnesses helping the child to get off the ice floe to the shore.

According to reports, he got away without injuries and did not require medical help.

The schoolboy was playing near the river with a peer when the incident happened.

The kids said they secretly fled the courtyard near their apartment block and went to the river and climbed on ice.

The curious friends were inspecting the ice when it started cracking under their feet.

One of them managed to jump to safety but the other got stranded on a drifting ice floe and was carried 65 feet (20 metres) away from the shore.
