BO's Last Week Tonight was on hiatus Sunday night, with programing turned over to the Alex Gibney's "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief," but John Oliver made a special web-only plea to America.

"Stop being a dick," he said and promise to not try pulling any April Fools pranks this year.

Referencing HBO's popular "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst," about the elusive Durst who allegedly murdered several people, Oliver said he was given the week off to "boost ratings on HBO, I plan to murder and dismember a friend of mine. Apparently that's how it works now."

Oliver then turned to April Fools Day, saying, "April Fools' Day is to comedy as St. Patrick's Day is to Irish culture. That is to say, it is a mockery of the very concept that usually ends in a fistfight."

"Pranks are terrible," he explained. "And anyone who claims to be excited for April Fools' Day is probably a sociopath. Because what they're really saying is, 'I cannot wait to hurt the people close to me.' "

With that in mind, Oliver asked his studio audience to take the "No prank pledge," swearing to "not post a fake engagement photo on Facebook like some kind of asshole," and pledging not to "perpetuate a celebrity death hoax because that makes people sad."

Oliver then took great delight in encouraging his audience to repeat, over and over, "I will not be a dick. I will not be a dick."
