The Navy’s own scientists are warning that naval training exercises jeopardize whales and dolphins. Two newly published environmental impact statements by Navy researchers warn that in the next five years, hundreds of whales and dolphins could die and thousand more suffer serious injuries due to fleet training and testing activities.

Navy operations from 2014 through 2019 along the United States’ east coast, the Gulf of Mexico, Southern California, and Hawaii all received scrutiny from the two studies, which the Navy released Friday. All of these locations are areas where naval units test equipment and train their sailors.
