The man who invented the airplane before the Wright Brothers

Years before the Wright brothers flew at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, an aircraft was built that later proved superior to the motor-driven biplane prototype designed by the two bicycle mechanics from Ohio. Only a quirk of fate and one bad decision prevented the aerodynamic genius Samuel Pierpont Langley from taking his place in history as the first man to successfully fly a heavier-than-air machine.
