Republicans voted virtually unanimously to hand over your private data to the US Department of Homeland Security. Luckily, due to an amendment in the House we have one more opportunity to stop it in the Senate.
Action Item
Call your own state senator and tell them to VOTE NO on SB1070 as written because of Pearce's refusal to stop the MVD and DPS from turning over your license information to the feds.

In SB1070 it states
Subsection E, E1, and E2 under 11-1051 under Section 2 allows for any political subdivision or agency of the state to exchange data of any person for any license with the US Department of Homeland Security.
This includes
-DPS to provide concealed carry permit information to the feds
-AZ Game and Fish to provide hunting license information to the feds
-MVD to provide your drivers license information, including your residence information to the feds
Pearce continues to insist "it's not in there". Ironically even the email he sent to his supporters on Thursday night says it is!

I just got off the phone with State Senator Richard Miranda's receptionist Deborah, who was very nice in taking my feedback opposing SB 1070 because of the verbage that sends our data to the federal government. She told me that I was in the majority on this one and they have been receiving numerous calls for exactly the same reason.

Please take a moment to call your senator and tell them you do not want the State of Arizona to hand over our data to the federal government when the state passed a resolution to NOT comply with REAL ID. SB 1070 hands over our data to the federal government VOLUNTARILY!

While I'm all for calling attention to and fighting this onerous piece of legislation, it should be noted that the Department of Homeland Security already has access to State Motor Vehicle Records.
I've had three run-ins with Border Patrol Agents over the past year or so (the most recent today) where it became abundantly clear the agents were accessing DMV database information regarding traffic stops they were engaging in.

Enough with this already! Besides mailing and emailing all our state senators and congresscritters, telling them to take that damned piece out of the bill or vote against it, we should also start preparing a case in state court. Politicians don't seem to be afraid of the citizens anymore, but at least they're still afraid of lawyers.

Some insist politicians be held personally responsible for the harm they do. Doesn't seem like a bad idea.
The weasels seem to imply that Mr. Pierce wielded a very heavy combination of Arm-Twisting & outright Bribes to get several Republicans to sign on. They knew it was bad law. They knew it would spark nasty litigation. They knew it violated their respective oaths. But, they felt "compelled", or they "voted for it anyway". Just nauseating.
Mr. Pierce & Mr. Kavanaugh know that the equally gutless courts will give great deference to the Legislature, belch magic words like "strong presumption of constitutionality", nibble around the edges, and go back to sleep.
After the suits, what remains will be a whole bag of new administrative, regulatory, and procedural tricks to make hash of the tattered rag our 4th & 5th Amendment Rights have become. Barf.
