In a tragic and startling turn of events, a 22-year-old woman, Kayla Kenisha Brown, was facing murder, kidnapping, and carjacking charges following a disturbing carjacking incident in Washington D.C. on Monday that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman.

The unsettling chain of events began at 1:11 p.m. on Monday at Washington Hospital Center, according to a news release from the Metropolitan Police Department.

On that fateful afternoon, a woman parked a Mazda SUV in front of the hospital with her 55-year-old mother seated beside her in the passenger seat. The driver exited the vehicle momentarily to retrieve a wheelchair for her mother, leaving the engine running.
