Tech giant Microsoft and artificial intelligence firm OpenAI are reportedly working together to build an artificial intelligence supercomputer called "Stargate" that could cost as much as $100 billion. As per the report, the AI supercomputer is slated to launch in 2028. This massive investment, potentially over 100 times more costly than existing data centres, underscores the soaring demand for advanced computing power to handle generative AI workloads. Stargate will be the culmination of a five-phase plan, with Microsoft financing the project and a substantial portion going towards procuring specialised, expensive AI chips crucial for training large language models that power AI models.
