Kendall Chamberlin, water superintendent of Richmond, Vermont, said he has been lowering the level of fluoride in the town's water supply

 Chamberlin said he did so because of worries about fluoride and the fact its sourced from China 

73% of the U.S. population is served water with fluoride as it protects teeth from cavities 

The mineral was first added to public water in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1945 

The town will now fluoride its water at usual levels, and it's unclear if anyone involved will face professional repercussions
