Everything We Know About The 2,000 HP Lotus Evija (w/Videos)

• https://insideevs.com by Mark Kane

Lotus Evija, unveiled in July as the first all-electric British hypercar, is a truly fascinating EV and the first new model from Lotusunder Geely ownership.

The name Evija (pronounced 'ev-eye-a') means "the first in existence" or "the living one", but it will not end on a single example. Lotus announced that it will make 130 Evija, starting production at Hethel, Norfolk in 2020. It ain't gonna be cheap, starting in the UK at around £1.7 million excluding duties and taxes. The wealthy enthusiast will need to act quickly and reserve a production slot with a £250,000 deposit.

The Lotus Evija is equipped with a mid-mounted 70 kWh battery pack (behind front seats), which maybe doesn't sound like much, but it should be enough to go 250 miles (400 km) under the WLTP test cycle. The true power of the battery system lies in power output of up to 2,000 kW and ability to provide repeatable acceleration without power throttling. Lotus said that Evija is capable of being driven flat-out with no derating for at least 7 minutes in Track mode.

It's quite an achievement when we try to imagine the performance of the four motor powertrain rated for some 1.5 MW, which can shoot the car from 0 to 300 km/h in less than 9 seconds!
