KONCEPTO MILLENYA: Filipino Inventor Channels Frustration Over Metro Manila Traffic...

In August, a video of a flying machine surfaced on the internet, showing it hovering above what seems to be a small back yard somewhere in the Philippine capital of Metro Manila. The craft, piloted by a single person and looking like a cross between a camera drone and Batman's Bat Wing, effortlessly lifted off from the ground and moved gracefully from side to side with precision within the confined space of the property. But what exactly is it?

The aircraft, made from strong yet ultralight carbon fiber material is the result of the painstaking efforts of its Filipino inventor, Kyxz Mendiola, whose frustration with the terrible Manila traffic led him to build his very own "flying car" which he calls the Koncepto Milenya.

The Koncepto Milenya is a single-seater, manned aircraft that uses drone or multi-copter technology in order for it to achieve lift. The electric rotors which are run by batteries rechargebale in under 3 hours, provide the lift needed to allow the vehicle to remain afloat for 15 minutes. Mendiola hopes to extend the flying time in the future and perhaps mass produce the vehicle to allow people to navigate the big-city traffic that led him to invent the amazing piece of tech in the first place.

In an interview, the Filipino Inventor recalled, "Gusto ko parang sports car. Mala-Lamborghini na lumilipad. 'Yung design, trial and error siya eh. Katulad ng paraan ng pag hanap ko ng mga piyesa (I want it to be like a sports car. Like a Lamborghini that flies. Its design came from trial and error. Like how I sourced out its parts. At first, it caught fire. Then I bought the wrong parts.)."
