Korryn Gaines barricaded herself in the house with a shotgun, allegedly firing two shots towards police that resulted in police shooting and killing her as well as wounding her 5-year-old son.

Reportedly, police were only coming to arrest Gaines on an outstanding warrant for not having a legal license plate on her vehicle. Instead, she had a cardboard sign that read "Any government official who compromises this pursuit of happiness and right to travel will be held criminally responsible and fined, as this is a natural right and freedom." The car was also unregistered and uninsured – illegal in the state of Maryland (and every other state in the country).

While she was pulled over, Gaines allegedly stated that the cops were trying to "steal her car" and would have to "murder her" to get her out of the vehicle. Officers pulled her out of the car while she shouted "record this" to the crowd of people that had gathered around her.
