According to gun shop owner Ray Parga "The California compliant rifles right now are non-existent. There is nothing out there." He added that "We're getting right now, probably 20 calls a day and we are a small shop. Generally they just want to be able to have one before they aren't allowed to buy them anymore."

Parga admitted that these new laws, which also require California residents to undergo a background check to buy ammunition and restricts the loaning of firearms to family members, won't stop any crimes. "Criminals don't care about the law. Evil is as evil is." He also claimed that gun manufacturers were sure to find an alternative to bullet buttons, which allow rifle owners to quickly change the magazines in their weapons.
