As the people of Hong Kong rise up in mass, I hope they understand the relevance or their actions. These protests are vastly more important then most of them probably understand. Political participation throughout history has not yielded the liberties of the Citizens, it is both passive and violent protests that have. Sadly, the violent protests, except in rare circumstances, do not have the same long term results as those of passive resistance and the costs are obviously tremendous.
