Libertarian Congressional Candidate Polls 31% in Florida

Lucas Overby, the Libertarian Party candidate for Congress from Florida's 13th District, is polling at 31 percent, according to a new survey. One of the reasons Overby is doing so well is because Democratic challenger Ed Jany dropped out of the race. This left just Overby to face the Republican incumbent, David Jolly. Without a Democrat in the race, Overby is spending much of his time winning support from those on the political left. The candidate told an assembled crowd, "I have never, ever found an area where a Republican candidate actually represented all of my ideals." (1) This new poll found 43 percent of Democrats in the district say they will vote for the Libertarian. Overby is also showing the ability to raise large sums of money in the race. Recently, he raised more than $10,000 in a single weekend. Congressman Jolly has the support of 47 percent of respondents to the poll, 17 points above his third-party challenger.
