Libertarian candidate wins prize for most zingers

There was an edge of tension that nearly erupted into open hostility at the 9th U.S. Congressional candidate forum held recently in the Madison Heights City Hall. Three times the moderator from the League of Women Voters threatened to halt the forum if the audience didn't behave. And despite repeated warnings the candidates couldn't resist sniping at each other. In the hot seats were Democrat Sander Levin, Republican Don Volaric, Libertarian Jim Fulner, Les Townsend of the U.S. Tax Party and Julia Williams of the Green Party. The new 9th U.S. House District sweeps from St. Clair Shores through Madison Heights to the villages of Beverly Hills, Franklin, Bingham Farms and up to Bloomfield Township. While he likely has little chance of winning the election — by his own admission — Fulner got the prize for the most zingers.
