Supreme Court upholds jail strip searches, including for minor offenses

• Washington Post
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that those arrested for even minor violations may be strip-searched before being admitted to jail, saying safety concerns outweigh personal privacy rights.

The court’s conservatives ruled against a New Jersey man who was strip-searched after being mistakenly arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Coming next: You were driving on the highway, mid-rush traffic, any big city USA, and the officer stopped you for a possible minor offense...

Officer: May I see your drivers license and proof of insurance.

You: Officer, am I being detained?

Officer: Yes. Step out of the car and prepare for a strip-search, both for my safety and for the safety of the hundreds of motorists passing by in this rush-hour traffic. You might be a terrorist.
