Maybe I'm missing something, but this story ends with "them" escorting him to baggage claim, not to a departure gate; not to another flight.  In fact, he specifically stated

"So, since I had nobody waiting for me at home and no connecting flight to catch, I had some free time. ..."

I'm still waiting to hear about his "next flight on Wednesday."
