If your land was originally homesteaded, wherein the homestead went through to its conclusion, you can update the homestead. It is called a Land Patent. They can't take it from you if you update the Patent. They might be able to take the buildings, but they can't take the land.

If they force you off the land, and sell it to someone else, these new "owners" ow you rent for using the land... but only if you update the homestead / patent, first.

OMFG it is truly insidious.  They mean to put us all WHERE OUR SWAMP COOLERS WON'T WORK. No Southwesterner can suffer humidity unless it's the shower or the swimming pool.
