An Oklahoma State Trooper pulled over an ambulance on its way to the hospital Sunday, resulting in the police officer placing a chokehold on a paramedic as a patient lingered in the back.

This was very unclear, but I got the impression the EMT driver was stopped for running a red light. Now, clearly EMTs are supposed to run red lights once they have made sure the intersection is safe -- but there's at least a tiny chance the cop had a legitimate issue.

That said, there's no reason in the world why the cop shouldn't just follow the ambulance to the hospital, deliver the patient, and then deal with the alleged traffic violation.

No matter how you cut it, this stop stinks.

Blog of Bile has some more links on this. I really want to see the dash cam footage of the patrol car, that the cop referred to, including the initial coming up and passing the EMT vehicle, and the entire remainder of the three minutes or so where he picks up a woman and then pursues the van again. Oh yes I do. And the emergency necessitating the pickup of this woman? Her identity?
