"Xena, the Warrior Princess" TV series was based in the area of Thrace. Xena, herself, was from Amphipolis, an ancient capitol of Thrace, presently near the city called nea Amfipoli. Her friend, Gabrielle, was from a city called Potidea, nea Potidea today, about 100 miles from Amphipolis. They are located about 250 miles west of Istanbul (as the crow flies).

Some of the most ancient history involves the Thracians.

For loads of Xena info, and some historical stuff about Thrace as well, see - http://www.whoosh.org/ .
