Russian Foreign Policy Achievements in 2020

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

US and Russian foreign policy are worlds apart.

In stark contrast to Russia's support for world peace, stability, and mutual cooperation with other nations, the US wages endless war on humanity at home and abroad.

Russia's Foreign Ministry explained that in 2020, the nation's foreign policy "focused on making better use of the potential for international cooperation in the interests of protecting national security, promoting the country's socioeconomic development and encouraging approaches to current global and regional problems that meet the interests of Russia."

Its ruling authorities called on other nations to "stop playing zero sum games and to abandon double standards in favor of an open and honest dialogue."

What's possible in relations with many nations doesn't work in dealing with hegemon USA and its imperial partners.

Attempts to turn things in a positive direction fail with disturbing regularity because US dark forces demand subservience from other nations.

Mutual cooperation is off the table as it's been throughout most of the post-WW II period.

Throughout 2020, Moscow aided over 300,000 of its citizens enduring unacceptable conditions abroad return home.

Russia is a world public health leader domestically and on the world stage.

On the 75th anniversary of WW II's end, Russia co-sponsored a UN resolution "to prevent the falsification of history and a revision of the causes and results of World War II" — supported by 130 nations, not the US and its Western imperial partners.

Russia successfully chaired international forums and organizations.

Through its BRICS chairmanship, 140 events were held, over 40 documents adopted.

Russia coordinated the alliance's Counter-Terrorism Strategy, its Economic Partnership 2025, and launched the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform.

Moscow's Russia-India-China alliance chairmanship adopted initiatives for global economic growth, peace and stability.

"Russia's CSTO Chairmanship in 2019-2020 included the adoption of strategic documents on collective security and joint efforts against new challenges and threats."

"Over 70 events were held within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), including the SCO Summit on November 10."

Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries adopted measures relating to economic developed for member states.

Anti-crisis measures were adopted "to ensure the vital needs of the people, maintain mutual trade and free movement of goods, and create conditions for further economic growth…within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)."

The Strategic Directions for Developing Eurasian Economic Integration was approved through 2025.

"Russia and Belarus signed an agreement on mutual recognition of national visas and other documents related to the entry and stay of foreign nationals and stateless person in the Union State."

"Efforts (were) redoubled to coordinate integration roadmaps."

Efforts toward creating a Greater Eurasian Partnership moved forward.

The Sino/Russia strategic partnership advances global stability and mutual cooperation among nations.

Russian-Indian dialogue was productive throughout the year.

Russia's trade and economic priorities were adopted at an APEC Forum.

Moscow continued to pursue cooperative relations with Latin American and Caribbean states.

"Russia energetically supported multilateral efforts aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua" — nations hegemon USA targets for regime change.

"Russian-African cooperation was strengthened when the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum became operational and an Association of Economic Cooperation with African States was formed."

Russian efforts were key in achieving conflict resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh.

Moscow signed a Russian-Serbian intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in combating terrorism.

Cooperation with Iran and Turkey in the Astana format helped advance things toward eventually freely Syria from the scourge of US aggression.

Russian efforts in Libya aim to restore peace and stability to the US-raped nation.

"Russia's relationship with the…West has not improved" because of US hegemonic ambitions.

"Confrontational approaches continued to prevail over constructive policies at NATO, the EU and some of their member states."

Despite hostile actions toward Russia by EU countries, Moscow maintains open dialogue.

"Russia's relations with the United States are based on our awareness of the two states' special responsibility for international security and strategic stability and included our gestures of readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation based on respect for each other's interests."

Russia's good faith diplomatic outreach to the US is unreciprocated, rendering cooperative relations unattainable.

The same is true about US-dominated NATO — an instrument for pursuing its imperial agenda that's hostile to peace, stability, and mutual cooperation among world community nations.
