NYT Reinvented History

NYT Reinvented History

by Stephen Lendman

Reinventing history is standard Times practice, substituting disinformation, distortions and fake news for truth-telling.

On Wednesday, its editors blasted what they called Trump's "insult to history," claiming "tectonic plates of Europe are shifting."

They quoted Germany's Angela Merkel's bluster about "Europeans (needing to) take our fate into our own hands," suggesting America is no longer a reliable partner - her comment directed at Trump, not longstanding German/EU/NATO relations with Washington.

Times editors: "Since World War II, the United States led the way in building a new international order rooted in NATO and the European Union as well as a belief in democracy and free markets. Britain, France and Germany were central to that effort, which for 70 years kept the peace and delivered prosperity to millions of people while standing firm against the Soviet threat, helping end the Bosnian War and combating extremism in Afghanistan."

Fact: Washington seeks unchallenged global dominance, a ruthless agenda, waging direct and proxy wars, toppling independent governments, assassinating "uncooperative" leaders, establishing an empire of bases worldwide, using them as platforms for aggression against nations threatening no one, flouting international law with impunity.

Fact: As long as US-dominated NATO exists, world peace and stability are unattainable.

Fact: Soviet Russia never threatened war on Western countries, nor does Russia today against any nations.

Fact: NATO doesn't help end conflicts. It fuels them. It doesn't combat terrorism. It supports it.

Fact: Times editors have things upside down, their own version of history suppressing reality.

Times editors: "This trans-Atlantic partnership is still vital. But how, and how well, it will function as American leadership recedes is unclear."

Fact: NATO and the EU are US creations, using both institutions to further its imperial objectives.

Times editors: So-called "divisions between Europe and the United States…have one clear beneficiary, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, who has longed for the alliance, Moscow's Cold War adversary, to unravel."

Fact: Putin seeks world peace, stability and mutual cooperation with all nations - polar opposite US-dominated NATO's agenda.

Times editors: Trump "insult(ed) trusted ally Germany." After returning home from his first foreign trip, "(h)is remarks showed no appreciation for now NATO works…"

Fact: Trump is wrong saying Germany (and other alliance nations) should spend more on militarism. They should slash their defense budgets, not increase them at a time no enemies exist except invented ones.

Fact: US-dominated NATO is a killing machine. World peace and stability depend on dismantling the alliance once and for all.

Times editors: "Europe has been battered by the Greek financial crisis; the rise of authoritarianism in Turkey, Hungary and Poland; Britain's decision to withdraw from the European Union; and the flow of refugees from the Middle East and North Africa."

Fact: Washington, Brussels and Berlin bear full responsibility for Greece's economic and financial crisis - along with its own government agreeing to pay bankers instead of serving its people responsibly.

Fact: Britain, France, Germany and other European countries are police states, not democracies.

Fact: All EU and NATO countries should abandon memberships in these alliances, destructively benefitting powerful interests exclusively.

Times editors: Putin "exploited every weakness and crisis, along with instigating a few of his own. Russia invaded Ukraine and has interfered in electoral campaigns in the United States, France and Germany."

"Mr. Putin has meddled in the Baltic States, cultivated far-right-wing allies in Hungary and wooed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey on NATO's eastern flank. He is now courting Italy with a savvy ambassador to Rome and financing for anti-establishment parties."

Fact: If all leaders governed like Putin, peace and stability would break out worldwide. Wars of aggression Times editors support would end.

Times editors: Russia pursues a "destructive role in the Syrian conflict, in Ukraine, and in its dissemination of fake news."

Russia pursues resolving conflicts diplomatically, polar opposite Washington's agenda.

The NYT is the scoundrel media world leader in disseminating disinformation and fake news, pretending it's responsible journalism. Just the opposite is true.
