Mike Pence: Trump's VP Choice?

by Stephen Lendman

According to Roll Call, he's expected to name Pence as his running mate on Friday, July 15 in Manhattan - citing an unnamed "Republican with direct knowledge of the decision."

They spent time together in early July, again this week at the Indiana governor's mansion. IndyStar reported he dropped his gubernatorial reelection bid - "confirm(ing)" him to be Trump's VP choice.

He's a Tea Party hardliner, a loyal Trump supporter, Indiana governor since January 2013, former Indiana House member and House Republican Conference chair.

IndyStar cited unnamed GOP strategists, saying he'll "reassure rank-and-file Republicans that (he) can be trusted to pursue their interests." He also adds fundraising power.

Trump vetted various other candidates, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, NJ Governor Chris Christie and General Michael Flynn.

Clinton's choice is unclear. Perhaps she'll surprise. Last week, the Washington Post named 27 possibilities. It's likely down to a handful.

Former NATO commander Admiral James Stavridis is being considered - a warrior presidency twice over if chosen and Hillary is elected.

From July 18 - 21, Republicans meet in Cleveland, Democrats a week later from July 25 - 28.

Then the real mudslinging begins. Expect remaining campaigning to be some of the most rough and tumble in memory - lots of din, little substance, voters left to choose between two widely reviled candidates.
