Congressmen Destroy Democrat Scheme To Disarm U.S. Citizens...

Congressmen Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) recently took a moment to rant against a Democrat plot to ban the most popular semi-automatic rifle in America while arming government agencies that don't need to be equipped with "military-grade" weapons.

Rep. Massie explained why he was proposing an amendment to a bill being voted on this week, saying, "The underlying bill that we're marking up today purportedly does two things. It proports to ban 'weapons of war' – although it doesn't ban the SKS, the M1 Garand, the M1 Carbine or a variety of other weapons designed for the military – and it purports to ban magazines capable of carrying more than 15 rounds."

He continued to point out federal agencies like the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education have a blanket exemption from the bill, saying, "I am at a loss to understand why" those agencies "would need so-called 'weapons of war' to complete their missions."

When it came Jordan's time to speak, he said, "If the legislation passed, law-abiding citizens will no longer to be able to purchase an AR-15, the most common rifle in the country, but the government will… Now, something just doesn't seem right about that."

Next, Gaetz told his peers, "The entire reason we have the Bill of Rights is because there are certain rights that have to be reserved to the people, not government… This legislation has turned the Bill of Rights and Constitution on its head. It takes powers reserved to the people and it deprives the people of those powers and rights, and then it reserves, explicitly, the very same rights for government. Not for the military, but for like the Deputy Commissar of Pencil Erasers at the Department of Education."

"They want you weak and the government strong. They want you disarmed and the government armed to the teeth," he added.

The bill is not expected to pass the Senate.
