Donald Trump described Kyle Rittenhouse as a "fan" of his and a "nice young man" after meeting him at his Mar-a-Lago estate after Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges in the deadly Kenosha shootings that became a flashpoint in the debate over guns, vigilantism and racial injustice in the U.S.

But apparently Rittenhouse isn't such a huge fan after all.

He took to X after apparently facing backlash for saying he wouldn't vote for Trump this November. Instead, he plans to write in former Texas Congressman Ron Paul.

"A lot of people are upset that I said that I'm going to be writing in Ron Paul for president of the United States. And that is true, I will be writing in Ron Paul," Rittenhouse said in a video. "Unfortunately, Donald Trump had bad advisers making him bad on Second Amendment and that is my issue. If you cannot be completely, uncompromisable on the Second Amendment, I will not vote for you."

He added: "I support my decision and I have no takebacks."

Rittenhouse was charged with homicide, attempted homicide and reckless endangering for killing two men and wounding a third with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle in the summer of 2020 during a tumultuous night of protests over the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by a white Kenosha, Wisconsin, police officer.

Rittenhouse, a then-17-year-old former police youth cadet, said that he went to Kenosha to protect property from rioters but that he came under attack and feared for his life. He was acquitted a year later.

Joe Biden called for calm at the time, saying that while the outcome of the case "will leave many Americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken."
