(The Hill) — First lady Jill Biden and former first lady Melania Trump spoke on Sunday afternoon following the shooting at former President Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.

The first lady's office confirmed to The Hill that the two women spoke after Melania Trump released a statement earlier on Sunday, calling the attack on her husband "heinous" and saying that "political games are inferior to love."

The former first lady has hardly attended any public campaign events with her husband, but she is expected to appear during the GOP convention in Wisconsin this week.

The first ladies' phone call followed a phone call on Saturday night between President Joe Biden and Trump. The president later said he had a good talk with his political rival.
