With embers still hot from the wildfire that destroyed the Hawaiian town of Lahaina, attorney Mikal Watts took an overnight flight to the disaster scene and began interviewing witnesses, documenting burn patterns and flying drones over the area. 

Days later, he filed one of the first lawsuits against Hawaiian Electric seeking compensation for property owners, alleging the state's main power provider engaged in negligent and reckless actions that caused the disaster.
