The House January 6 (J6) Committee voted 9 to 0 to urge the Department of Justice to pursue criminal charges against former President Donald Trump for allegedly inciting violence at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The J6 Committee recommended 4 charges: Obstruction of an Official Procedure, Conspiracy to Make False Statements and Inciting or Assisting an Insurrection. Trump urged supporters during his speech at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021 to "fight like hell" and to go to the Capitol, but he also called on people to "peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard." Critics have stated that the criminal referral is being used to prevent Trump from becoming President ever again.
