Nehls believes that the Democrat Party initiated the investigation in response to his criticism of the Jan. 6 House Select Committee, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Nehls vowed that the "Capitol Police leadership have put a target on my back, but my work in exposing the security failures on January 6th, the death of Ms. Babbitt, and the sham investigation into the events of January 6th will not be deterred."

The Capitol Police were caught on video brutally beating conservative protesters on January 6 and there is evidence that they were involved in the death of protester Roseanne Boyland, in addition to killing Ashli Babbitt. The Capitol Police received $2.1 billion in funding from Congress in July.
