These critters will be herbivoirs feeding on the plant life in the water. No end of such fodder as well as ample cover. Now understand something. The mere fact it is here tells us that it hibernates like most water based reptiles like the turtle. It also tells us that it likely exists elsewhere as well. It needs no spikes in the Boreal forest, but certainly needs them in crocodile country.
