Should you be required to get a COVID-19 immunization?  This is what Naples, Florida Vice Mayor Terry Hutchinson wants to know. He recently invited community members to reach out with their thoughts.

Many officials assume COVID vaccines will have to be compulsory because otherwise not enough people would get them in order to adequately protect the population based on the theory of "herd immunity."  But as Dr. Robert Hawkes, the director of the Physician Assistant Program at Florida Gulf Coast University says, in a July 23, 2020 interview with a Southwest Florida news station, allowing people to choose is likely the most appropriate choice.

Vice Mayor Hutchinson agrees. He says to Fox 4 news, "The more things we can leave to individual decisions, probably as a society, we're better off."

We can't agree more – especially when you consider that a COVID-19 vaccine may not even provide long-term immunity against SARS-CoV-2.  If this were to happen, people would potentially be having to get vaccines multiple times per year … certainly not a reality that many Americans envision for themselves and their families.
