Donald Trump unveiled the first stage of a coronavirus bailout package for the economy Monday night after the Dow suffered its biggest ever daily drop – then stormed out of a briefing and refused to take questions.

He said he would start talks with Senate Republicans Tuesday on a payroll tax cut, or relief of some kind; help for hourly workers so they will not be penalized for being off work, and crisis loans for small business.

He also said there would be talks on help for the cruise, airline and hotel industries. Of the relief, plan, Trump promised the proposals 'will be major.'

A downbeat Trump spoke in the White House briefing room without using the word 'coronavirus,' calling it 'the virus that everybody is talking about all over the world.'

He spent the day dismissing the 2,025.32 Dow Jones plunge as fueled by 'fake news,' but the virus struck close to home late in the day when his Air Force One guest Matt Gaetz, a Florida congressman, walked off the plane and into quarantine saying he had met a confirmed victim of the virus at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
