Rep. Omar Received Campaign Contribution from Activist and Cousin of Turkish President Erdogan

Anti-American Representative Ilhan Omar has received contributions to her campaign from "the co-chairman of a Turkish-American advocacy group with close ties to Ankara." Representative Ilhan Omar "is under fire this week over votes she cast supporting Turkish government positions" reported the Daily Caller.

Omar was photographed with the Turkish activist, Halil Mutlu, at an event for the Turkish American Steering Committee (TASC). The Daily Caller reports that TASC is a "U.S.-based nonprofit that has for years waged public relations campaigns in support of Turkish government policies and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan."

Turkish media outlets have reported that Mutlu, who is the o-chairman of TASC, is Erdogan's cousin. TASC "has orchestrated a public relations push to cast doubt on whether the Ottoman Empire committed genocide against Armenians more than a century ago."

The group also "held rallies outside the White House condemning Syrian Kurds as terrorists, a position held by the Turkish government." Mutlu is a physician based in Connecticut who has "led TASC protests outside the Pennsylvania home of Fethullah Gulen, an exiled Muslim cleric who Erdogan wants extradited back to Turkey."

It all begins to make sense that Omar came under "intense scrutiny" earlier this week "over two votes she cast on resolutions aimed at punishing Turkey over its incursion earlier this month against Syrian Kurds."
