While the longtime talk show host has faded from the political scene since stumping for Democrat Stacey Abrams to the delight of the liberal media, Maher apparently hoped his monologue would cause Winfrey to reconsider her decision not to seek the White House in 2020.

Maher unveiled his final "new rule" by declaring "sometimes you don't choose history, history chooses you." Maher went on to complain that Robert Mueller heard a "call from history and let it go to voicemail." He then declared that "in the upcoming election, I believe history has chosen another person who, like Mueller, is uniquely qualified to perform the urgent task of unseating Trump."

At first, Maher refused to name that person, instead listing off reasons why the declared Democratic candidates do not measure up to the task of beating President Trump. Maher maintained that "there's lots of people I like" running for President, including "American hero" Bernie Sanders, but concluded that none of them are "a sure thing" when it comes to winning the 2020 Presidential Election.
