"Well, because republicans who hold elected office are beholden to big defense contractors and weapons makers.

You see, when they run for office, republicans get a lot of campaign contributions from companies who profit from foreign wars, invasions, conflicts and occupations.

In times of peace, these companies don't do as well financially.

So they send lobbyists to Washington D.C. who knock on doors of republicans in congress and pressure them to vote for wars and conflicts rather than for peace and diplomacy."

"Yes daddy, but aren't the republicans worried that if they start a war, American soldiers might get hurt or even die?"

"Oh no honey, most elected republicans couldn't care less about that because they know that it won't be themselves or their children going off to fight in a foreign conflict.

And furthermore the big weapons makers who profit from wars tell the republicans that if they vote for peace, they won't give them any more money at election time."

"Who are some of the companies who do that?"

"Oh, companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, General Dynamics etc."

"Aren't those the same companies who make money selling weapons to foreign countries too?"

"You got it kiddo."

"Well, it seems like they aren't really as interested in defending our country as they are in making a profit selling arms to countries around the world."

"Yup. And some of those weapons are used to kill our own soldiers involved in foreign conflicts with the very people we sold (or gave) them to."
