Adidas Creates Sneakers From Ocean Trash And Fishing Nets Taken From Poachers

Need some new running shoes? Maybe you should hold out for a pair designed by Adidas that utilizes discarded plastic waste and illegal fishing nets taken from the sea.

Partnering with a multidisciplinary creative environmentalism organization called Parley for the Oceans, Adidas has pioneered a fitness shoe that does more for its wearer – and the Earth – than provide comfortable support.

Fishnets in the sea are a significant source of ocean pollution, but Adidas didn't source the recycled fibers directly from the ocean. Instead, they partnered with The Sea Shepherds, a sea-bound environmental activism organization that captured roughly 72k of illegal gillnets after tracking illegal poachers wanted by Interpol off the coast of West Africa for 110 days. And when the poachers' boat sank, the environmentalists saved them, too!

As HuffPost reports, the shoes' uppers will be created with recycled plastics and act green net fibers. The base will utilize other sustainable materials.
