"The United States under [President Barack] Obama, being run by their controllers in Wall Street and the City of London, are driving a war confrontation policy towards both Russia and China, which is unprecedented in history," said Mike Billington, the Asia editor for the Executive Intelligence Review.

"They are willing to go to war to stop the development of the BRICS, to prevent their power over the world as a whole," Billington told Press TV on Saturday.

BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. They are distinguished by their large, fast-growing economies and significant influence on regional and global affair.

US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday compared China's behavior in pursuit of territory in the South China Sea to that of Russia in eastern Ukraine. He called China's construction projects in the South China Sea "a threat to peace and stability."
