His ex-girlfriend, who had recently moved out of his home, also happened to be a fellow cop, which may explain why he didn't receive the usual protection of the thin blue line.

Davie police officer James Krey was jailed on two counts of extortion, held on a bond of $75,000.

Like many officers who end up arrested, Krey was named "Officer of the Year" for his work on DUI cases, described  by his captain at the time as "working hard to take these dangerous people off the road."

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel:

James Joseph Krey, 37, who joined the department in 2004 and worked as a road patrol officer, was arrested while on duty Tuesday. He is in a Broward jail awaiting his first appearance court hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Krey is accused of threatening his former girlfriend, who is also a Davie Police officer, during conversation and in texts, according to a police official and an arrest warrant.

The threats were sent Monday and Tuesday morning, and that day the victim informed Davie P.D.'s internal affairs investigators. The agency contacted Coral Springs Police because the victim resides in that city, Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McHugh said.
