US warship with 550 Marines enters Persian Gulf

Monday, the USS Mesa Verde equipped with 550 Marines entered into the Persian Gulf in preparation for a possible operation in Iraq. The ship is a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, designed to carry an expeditionary force across the sea, deploying landing craft and helicopters, reported RT. Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby, said the ship is capable of conducting a variety of quick reaction and crisis operations.
