Thatcher officer resigns after lying, coercing in drug arrest case

• Eastern Arizona Courier

Police corruption in Arizona is not limited to the big cities. For the second time in two years in Thatcher, Arizona criminal charges have been dropped because of a too-close relationship between an investigating officer and the suspect. Thatcher Police Sgt. Scott Mulleneaux resigned his position after it was learned he lied about an extramarital affair he was having with a co-worker, who was the mother of a suspect in a drug possession case. Mulleneaux was also alleged to have tried coercing the manager of the apartment complex where the arrest took place, saying the manager tipped the police about the drug activity. According to the apartment manager, no such tip occurred.
