Privately Owned Prisons Suing States Over Lack Of Prisoners

 Privately owned state prisons have begun suing states for millions of dollars because they aren't filled to capacity with inmates. Yes, you read that right.

Way back when we were covering Ron Paul's 32 Questions, both John Odermatt and I touched on the topic of the private prison system and its lobbyists as a reason that the US drug war would continue. In a nutshell, there was far too much money tied up in the industry of prisoners to eradicate the war on drugs. A very large percentage of the prison population (of which the US has the largest in the world) would dry up if these absurd drug arrests and minimum sentences went the way of the dodo.
