Google Appears To Be Bringing Super-Fast Internet To A City Near You

• http://www.businessinsider.com, Nicholas Carlson

Maher used Capstone's proprietary software to analyze over 2,000 job listings to compare Google, Facebook, and Linkedin hiring trends.

In a report, he writes:

Initial Indications Google Fiber Is Likely Expanding Beyond Kansas City. We saw an ad for an Inside Sales position in Mountain View, CA for selling Google Fiber to small businesses. The ad said the position would be tasked to build a team to sell a national broadband network indicating Google likely plans to build a fiber-optic network in additional cities.
Why is Google doing this? Earlier analysis from Matt Rosoff:

Google has a business interest inmaking the Internet faster, as the more time people spend online, the more likely they are to use Google for searches and see Google ads on various sites; slow page loading times turn people off.

The Kansas City experiment may also be the start of a Google pay-TV service that would compete against cable providers -- Google hired a former cable exec, Jeremy Stern, to talk to content providers, and the company's purchase of Motorolacould give it technology for use in TV set top boxes.
