 If you fear that the currency of your country is failing, you would want to have your gold close at hand, so you can access and use it if/when the currency dies.

But if your currency is failing, what would motivate you to remove your gold to a distant location in another country?

 

Fear of CONFISCATION.

Europeans have been through this before, and they see it coming again. Mussolini threatened Italians years before the war to turn in gold in return for steel jewelry emblazoned with "Gold for the Fatherland".

Yes, there's only one reason to send your gold physically elsewhere;...because it isn't safe where you are.
