Jehovah’s Witnesses to hold annual Memorial observance this week

NEW YORK—Jehovah’s Witnesses are out in force inviting all to attend the annual commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ. This year’s event will be observed by congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide on Thursday, April 5, 2012, after sundown. The Witnesses are hoping to see an all-time peak in attendance. The Witnesses consider this occasion, known as the Lord’s Evening Meal or the Lord’s Supper, to be the most important event of the year. The ceremonial observance conforms to the description in the Gospel accounts of a special meal instituted by Jesus Christ that would become the model for memorializing his death annually. Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide are sparing no effort to invite others to meet with them for the observance, which examines the significance of Jesus’ death.
