'Moby Dick' captain's ship found in Pacific

A sunken whaling shape—once commanded by the captain that inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick—has been found in shallow Pacific waters off Hawaii. The classic American novel that relates the metaphysical morality tale of a 19th Century sea captain obsessed by the evil spirit of a great white whale might never have been penned if it hadn't been for the misadventures of whaling Captain George Pollard. Pollard was a driven skipper just like the main protagonist, Ahab, in Melville's 1851 novel. After his first whaling vessel, the Essex, was sunk in 1821 by an enraged sperm whale, Pollard returned to the sea several years later in a new vessel, the Two Brothers.
