FBI computer system years late and way over budget

• news.yahoo.com

WASHINGTON – After years of costly delays, a computerized FBI case management system still isn't finished.

A Justice Department report released Wednesday says the Sentinel system is $100 million over budget and nowhere near complete. And it warned that longer delays could mean the program is outdated before it's even finished.

The program is intended to create a user-friendly, paperless case-management system.

The Sentinel plan replaced an earlier $170 million computer program that was scrapped after consultants deemed it obsolete and riddled with problems.
