Obama’s Grab for New Spy Powers

• prisonplanet.com
In a reprise of the crypto wars of the 1990s, the U.S. secret state is mounting an offensive that would force telecommunication companies to redesign their systems and information networks to more easily facilitate internet spying.
Touted as a simple technical “fix” that would “modernize” existing legislation for wiretaps, government security officials will demand that telecommunication firms and internet service providers provide law enforcement with backdoors that would enable them to bypass built-in encryption and security features of electronic communications.

With the Obama administration rivaling, even surpassing antidemocratic moves by the Bush regime to monitor and surveil the private communications of the American people, The New York Times reported last week that “federal law enforcement and national security officials are preparing to seek sweeping new regulations for the Internet.”

Following closely on the heels of FBI raids on antiwar and international solidarity activists, the “change” administration now wants Congress to require all providers who enable communications “to be technically capable of complying if served with a wiretap order.”

Times’ reporter Charlie Savage informs us that the administration will demand that software and communication providers build backdoors accessible to law enforcement and intelligence agencies, thus enabling spooks trolling “encrypted e-mail transmitters like BlackBerry, social networking Web sites like Facebook and software that allows direct ‘peer to peer’ messaging like Skype” the means “to intercept and unscramble encrypted messages.”

Calling new legislative strictures a “reasonable” and “necessary” tool for law enforcement that will “prevent the erosion of their investigative powers,” FBI mouthpiece, general counsel Valerie E. Caproni, told the Times, “We’re talking about lawfully authorized intercepts.”

Really?

Is It Only Spy Powers Obama Wants, or Does Obama Want To Lockdown America?

Recently you may have read about Obama’s hundreds’ of new X-ray Vans that will be traveling our streets, secretly x-raying Americans, peering though Citizens’ homes and vehicles, exposing Americans to X-rays. Alexander Higgins Blog Oct. 3rd 2010 covered this “End of Privacy In America — Feds Using X-Ray Vans To Watch You In Your Home.”

X-ray vans are an affront to privacy, literally allowing government/police to view Citizens in their bedrooms. Americans need to ask Obama if independent studies were conducted to determine if Citizens could develop Cancer if (repeatedly exposed) to X-raying of their cars at Vehicle Check Points? Check Points can include a government agent X-raying traffic at an intersection everyday when Citizens are driving home from work. Continued Low Radiation Exposure is Accumulative and believed to cause Cancer.

Since Obama appears intended to provide X-ray Vans to local police, could corrupt Police using the radiating device injure or kill People, by repeatedly X-raying someone driving their vehicle or in their home—causing the recipient or their family Cancer? That question should to be asked, because there has been no discussion about repeated/long term exposure to the Vans’ X-rays. The medical community should be brought into the discussion to get their opinion about the Vans X-rays. There must be a reason medical staff use lead shields in hospitals to avoid being bombarded with X-rays when treating patients.

Does Obama Intend to Lockdown America?

Consider:   (1) X-Ray Vans can be positioned by the military or police to quell/control civil unrest and revolt, to secure perimeters of an area (city) to discover and stop Citizens carrying guns.

Obama the last six months and some in the Congress have proposed or taken steps to give President Obama unprecedented power to crush Americans’ civil liberties, to intimidate/stop Citizens speaking out—effectively Lockingdown America. For example:

(2) Obama wants to effectively trash the Fourth Amendment, allowing the FBI Warrantless searches of all Internet Activity including emails. Obama is also supporting warrantless wiretapping of all telephone and other electronic communications. That will result in crushing free speech and expression, Citizens will be afraid to communicate by phone or email and will worry someone might communicate to them a statement or message that will cause their arrest if they don’t report it:  anything someone says on the phone or in a email can later be used by government against them in a trial or civil asset forfeiture proceeding, the latter requiring only a civil preponderance of evidence to confiscate property, little more than hearsay.

(3) In April 2010 Obama during a national security speech, asked for the Power to indefinitely incarcerate Americans not based on evidence or probable cause, but because they might do something violent in the future; that would make the Obama government the Thought Police. Obama could indefinitely detain in jail, any person that was prior or is in jail for an alleged violent crime, because they might commit a crime if released; or detain any innocent person the Obama government deemed undesirable for any reason whatsoever.

(4) Among similar bills, on March 4, 2010, John McCain introduced S.3081 The “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010.” If passed, the government can use (only suspicion) or less to curtail an individual’s Constitutional Protections against unlawful arrest, detention and interrogation without benefit of legal counsel and trial. According to McCain’s S.3081, Government would not be required to provide (detained individuals) Miranda Warnings or even an attorney. Americans could be interrogated and held indefinitely in military custody on only suspicion of being an Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent suspected of; having engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners; or purposefully and materially (supported) hostilities against the United States; its coalition partners or civilians. “Materially Supporting Hostilities” against the United States could include any person or group that spoke out or demonstrated disapproval against an agency of U.S. Government; Government could allege attending a protest supported hostilities. When you read the McCain bill it appears “suspicion” is not necessary for government to detain and interrogate Americans. If the government is allowed warrantless wiretapping of Citizens’ phones, Internet Activity, e.g. email, any statement or comment could be taken out of context, used under McCain’s bill to deem someone supported or engaged in hostilities to cause their indefinite detention. Note that Government is already referring to lawful demonstrators as Terrorists, and increasingly spies on lawful protestors speaking out. See McCain Senate bill S.3081:

(5) Interestingly Obama just recently took action to stop the lawful return from South Korea of 100,000 World War II era, surplus M1 Carbine and M1 Grand rifles that were to be shipped to the curio firearms market in The States. Obama is disallowing the return and sale of these antique rifles to Americans. The relic riffles are not considered an item purchased by drug cartels. Buyers of relic rifles have for decades been excluded from certain registration requirements; that has resulted in government not being able to track the weapons or it ammunitions than can be assembled, hand loaded by collectors. It is apparent Obama does not want these relic riffles in the hands of American civilians?

When one objectively views the sum of Obama’s recent actions that include trashing the Fourth Amendment that prevent government illegal searches of Citizens and their homes without a warrant, e.g. X-ray Vans; FBI/NSA Warrantless wiretaps of Citizens’ phone and other private electronic communications; Obama blocking Americans right to purchase relic riffles, one has to ask: Does the Obama Government have reason to fear the American People? Does Obama intend a Lockdown America? Could Americans be in danger of being harmed by there government? If you think about it, much of what Obama has already done and intends, crushing our Constitutional protected freedoms e.g. Warrantless wiretaps, reading our email, peering into our bedrooms with X-rays, amounts to marshal law without the President calling it marshal law. If the government were next to tell its Citizens you have no right to elect representatives, what could Americans do about it? That is conceivable when you the extent U.S. Government, intends to control the American People.
