Andrew Thomas resigning to run for state attorney general

• AZcentral.com

Thomas telegraphs what is likely to be a major theme of his state campaign, saying in the video that state and federal leaders should "step up and provide some support'' to seal the border. Rose said that Thomas has already raised enough $5 contributions to qualify for public campaign funding under Clean Elections rules. He will face off against Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne in the Republican primary election in September. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Thomas' decision came as no surprise. Arpaio said he did not think Thomas' move was a reflection on the infighting that has plagued Maricopa County government for the last 18 months. "He's run for Attorney General in the past. I know he's not trying to run away from a fight," Arpaio said. "I'm sure he's not going to change his philosophy that worked very well as a prosecutor -- not just with illegal immigration, but with sentencing and the courts."
