Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley, is crafting a measure to require anyone running for president or vice president to provide proof to the Arizona Secretary of State's Office that they are legally eligible to seek the office. The U.S. Constitution requires the president - and, by extension, the vice president - to be "a natural born citizen."

Representative Burges has proposed such a common sense bill, that it should pass unanimously! Who would have thought that the Secretary of State did not already have the responsibility to insure that candidates for all offices had demonstrated their qualifications for office. The only reason that her proposed law would not be needed os if such responsibility already existed - and the SoS failed to exercise it in 2008!
I think you should look very closely at Judy Burgess. Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't she and her husband the ones that closed down the Republican Party (District 19?) meeting when they realized the Ron Paul delegates outnumbered those of the party establishment? I remember Rene telling me something about this, and I am always suspicious of the Republican Party machine. Eric New
Okay, I am going to be keeping track of what Rep. Judy Burges, R-Skull Valley has to say from now on. Thank you for stepping up with decent common sense, Ms. Burges. The State of Arizona deperately needs more of this line of thinking.
